Laura Sofía Pérez (b. 1989, San Juan, Puerto Rico) is a multidisciplinary artist who works in the realms of video, installation, and sound. She received her MFA in Film/Video from California Institute of the Arts and her BFA in Fine Arts from Parsons: The New School for Design. Her work has been screened and exhibited in San Juan, New York, Los Angeles, Miami, and Buenos Aires. Exhibitions include "Santurce es Ley," San Juan, Puerto Rico (2011), "WIMMIN," Glasshouse, Brooklyn, NY (2013), "Without a Song," Fundación ACE, Buenos Aires, Argentina (2014), "No Limits Within," California Institute of the Arts, Los Angeles, CA (2017), and "Homeless," Miami, FL (2017). She was a SUB30 artist in residence at Fundación ACE, Buenos Aires, Argentina in 2014. She has worked on video projections for theatrical and musical productions by director Natalia Lassalle-Morillo and composers Chris Ryan Williams and Samora Pinderhughes. She has designed sound for various award winning animated shorts by her CalArts colleagues, including "Las del diente" by Ana Pérez López, which will screen this year in SXSW. Her installations often speak on ideas of deterritorialization and the air of melancholy that arises from displacement.
